Follow the Leader

Follow the Leader can be played indoors or out -- even play it on the way to bed at night.  Coming home from school is always a good time.

To start:

Choose a leader and establish a way to change the lead.  Here are a few ideas:

• Three turns and to the back of the line. 
• Every other night.
• Around the house once.

Believe me, once the rule is established, the others will let the leader know.

Enhancing the game:

Think of special circumstances and situations to make a theme for each turn.  Like the gang in the book, things like the Olympics are great for imagination.  We have used safari adventures, espionage and travels through the jungle to keep the story going.  Have the leader tell the group specifics about the moves to keep the stories coming.

Playing the game:

The leader starts the line and must establish the direction as well as the stunts for the group to do.  The leader marches forward and performs a stunt, goes in a direction or determines a way to move forward that everyone else must follow.
